A reporter on Monday asked White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt whether President Donald Trump supported the idea of assassinating Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reports Mediaite.
“On regime change, that question of — if the president was supporting that idea of having Iran’s supreme leader assassinated, he’s now floating his idea of regime change. Is that an idea that he would consider?” a journalist asked Leavitt, to which she responded, “I’m not going to get ahead of the president. I just explained his Truth [Social post] to you last night.”
Khamenei on Monday said Iran would not tolerate “harassment” and “not surrender to any aggression.”
Iran’s exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi, son of the shah deposed in the 1979 revolution, on Monday said he was ready to take over from Khamenei.
“I am here today to submit myself to my compatriots to lead them down this road of peace,” Pahlavi said at a press conference in Paris. “We are proud, ancient and resilient people … This is our moment. I am with you. Let us build this new Iran together.”
