Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University have announced plans to directly pay student-athletes, following a landmark $2.8 billion NCAA settlement. The move comes after a federal judge approved the “House Settlement,” which clears the way for schools to share revenue with athletes.

UNM’s athletic director called it a transformative moment for college sports. Both universities say they’re preparing carefully to ensure the new model supports athletes and remains financially sustainable.
