Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — A judge in Las Cruces has thrown out charges of trespassing on military territory for a couple dozen illegal immigrants, saying they could not have known about the law they were breaking. Federal Magistrate Gregory Wormuth made the ruling late Thursday, and is expected to extend it to the one-hundred or so migrants who have been charged with crossing the 60-foot buffer zone along the border. Signs are posted in English and Spanish that entry into the zone is a punishable crime, but the judge ruled they weren’t obvious enough. The migrants remain in custody for illegal entry into the US.
