Charged with being an illegal immigrant in possession of a firearm

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — One of the Venezuelan men found living at a former Dona Ana County Judge’s home was in federal court in Las Cruces Wednesday, facing a count of being an illegal immigrant in possession of a firearm. 23-year-old Christian Ortega-Lopez is also accused of being a Tren De Aragua gang member, and had posted photos online of himself holding an assault-style weapon. Prosecutors asked that Ortega-Lopez be held in detention after the judge indicated he was inclined to free him ahead of his trial. The suspect has agreed to remain in custody, although a ruling was not finalized Wednesday.
