Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — New Mexico is 5th in the nation for vehicle thefts. The latest report from “Easy Tires” says that last year alone, over 10,000 vehicles were stolen across the Land of Enchantment, translating to a staggering rate of 534 thefts per 100,000 vehicles. That figure is 74% higher than the national average, highlighting a serious issue for car owners in the state. Hyundai and Kia vehicles continue to be the most targeted by thieves last year, reflecting a national trend. In response to the continual threat in New Mexico and Albuquerque in particular, APD has distributed steering wheel locks to owners of these cars to reduce their vulnerability.
