Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The New Mexico “Teacher of the Year” made history Thursday, becoming the first Native American to be given the honor. Lorelei Chavez teachers Native American studies at Bernalillo High School, and was presented the award by Governor Lujan Grisham in a surprise assembly. Chavez is credited with bringing indigenous-based extra curricular activities to Bernalillo High.
