Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — In April 2023, the Bernalillo County Commission approved the use of a program intended to monitor the vital signs of at-risk Metropolitan Detention Center inmates. The goal was to alert jail and medical staff of potential medical incidents. Vendors had assured MDC that the Overwatch system would work within current IT infrastructure. However, it was unable to integrate with MDC’s inmate management system. Inmates complained about the wristbands being uncomfortable. And some inmates exercised their right not to participate in the required bracelet program during intake. As a result the contract with the company was terminated in May. MDC says it will continue working with our healthcare partners to proactively monitor at-risk inmates
