Bernalillo County, NM (KKOB) — Work is set to begin on the Rio Bravo Boulevard Gap Improvements Project today, Monday, June 10. The project includes the construction of an additional lane of travel lane in each direction on Rio Bravo Boulevard from Prince Street to Second Street increasing the number of lanes from four to six. Other features include multi-use trail connection, sidewalks, bike lanes, lighting and signal upgrades.
The project is broken into four major phases with emphasis on maintaining two lanes of traffic in both directions between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. Most of the work is expected to be completed at night or during the weekends with hopes of least disturbance to the community. The first phase will begin with shoulder work on westbound Rio Bravo Boulevard.
“After a brief delay, construction is ready to begin on this important project in the South Valley. As I have said before, I understand the disruptions this may cause, but improving this infrastructure is extremely important for ensuring safer and smoother travel for everyone in my district,” says District 2 Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada.
