Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD detectives arrested Lucas Crespin on Monday for his role in a shoot-out during an attempted robbery that resulted in the death of Devin Caballero.
Homicide detectives determined that Crespin, 18, was in a car with Caballero when they met Paul Gonzales with the intention of robbing Gonzales during a planned drug deal. They met up at 1205 Propps St., N.E.
During the drug deal, Caballero and Gonzales started shooting at each other as Caballero attempted to drive off. Gonzales held on to the outside of the vehicle as it drove. Caballero was shot and stopped the vehicle, causing Gonzales to roll to the ground. At some point, Crespin started shooting at Gonzales.
Gonzales was injured by the gunfire and fled on foot to a nearby residence. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for his wounds. Detectives arrested Gonzales on May 17, 2024, on charges of voluntary manslaughter and unlawful carrying of a handgun by a person under age 19.
Caballero died at the scene as a result of his gunshot wounds. Crespin was not injured.
Crespin is charged with an open count of murder, tampering with evidence, shooting at or from a moving vehicle, unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon, assault with intent to commit a violent felony, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy. He was booked into the Metro Detention Center.
