Hiway House gets new life

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The Hiway House Motel on Central was built in 1959, and it’s considered an icon of Route 66. That history aside, it’s been a problem for neighbors and the city for quite some time. A local development group is coming to the rescue of the dilapidated property. Tuesday, the group announced plans to transform the historic building into a new boutique hotel. They plan to break ground next year after completing asbestos abatement, and a complete demolition of the old motel. The end result will be a new hotel with 100 rooms, a rooftop bar, and a revitalized Hiway House neon sign.
