Syringes and needles on pedestrian bridge

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Wednesday, Albuquerque Public Schools Police notified the City that a pedestrian bridge frequently used by students of Del Norte High School had a large amount of syringes and needles. A Parks and Recreation Department employee who collects sharps was dispatched to pick them up. A spokesperson for the department said the employee collected 500 syringes on the city-maintained bridge that spans over Montgomery Boulevard NE. Officials with the city and APS are unsure how the needles got there. APS reports that no students were injured. Those who come across a syringe or needle, are advised to report it to the city by calling 311.
