APD detectives arrest suspect for stabbing death

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD detectives arrested Juan Carlos Garcia for the April 7, 2024, stabbing death of Luis Romero after a confrontation over an alleged $300 debt.

Detectives tracked down Garcia, 24, Sunday and arrested him on a warrant for open count of murder. Homicide detectives charged Garcia on April 9, and police have been searching for him since then.

Garcia, a native of Colombia, is also a suspect in a shooting on Sept. 15, 2023. He was arrested for that shooting, and was out of jail on pre-trial release.

Garcia is accused of stabbing Romero on April 7 at a home where several people were living, located at 12805 Dorado Dr., S.E. Three people transported Romero to a local hospital and dropped him off to be treated. Police stopped the vehicle and detained the three people. Detectives later questioned and released them.

Through investigation, detectives identified Garcia as the suspect. He was arrested Sunday afternoon.
