Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Monday morning, a Rio Rancho man, John Karl O’Brien, threatened to kill a judge for the 13th Judicial District, overseeing Cibola, Sandoval and Valencia counties. According to the Cibola County Sheriff Larry Diaz, O’Brien showed up at the courthouse with an ax, after calling a nearby law firm threatening to kill Judge Amanda Sanchez Villalobos. Upon deputies arrival at the courthouse, they reportedly saw O’Brien walking up to the entrance with the tool. They pulled out their guns and demanded he drop the axe, which he did. He was arrested, and is now facing multiple charges, including first-degree attempted murder and threatening a judge.
