APD warns of scam

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The Albuquerque Police Department is warning the public of a possible scam impersonating APD Chief of Police Harold Medina. The caller stated that they were contacting them because they were speaking with an underage female on a social media app and that her parents wanted to press charges. The caller adding, the person needed to send money to pay for medical bills for the minor. The person on the line also provided a badge number, and the number on the caller ID showed up as an actual phone line at the police department. The public is reminded that the Albuquerque Police Department would never contact individuals and request or demand any form of payment over the phone. Individuals are encouraged to report these types of scam calls to 242-COPS.
