APD arrests suspect for stealing $50,000 of copper wire

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD detectives arrested a suspect Tuesday who was wanted for stealing more than $50,000 worth of copper wire and causing damage to the city’s Transit Center.

Detectives APD’s Organized Crime Unit tracked Brian Robinson to a location near Tennessee St. and Bell Ave., S.E. and conducted surveillance as he and a female passenger in a truck drove to a Lowes store. Robinson, 47, and the female, later identified as Emma Brown, 26, resisted officers as the pair exited the store, and Robinson fled on foot after throwing meth on the ground. Brown spit on officers and kicked them. Officers used force to take both suspects into custody.

Rescue personnel arrived on scene to evaluate both suspects and firefighters stated they recognized the truck Robinson was driving as the vehicle involved in a metal theft that caused a fire earlier on Tuesday. Thousands of dollars worth of copper wire was stolen during that incident.

Detectives located the call for service and sealed the truck while they seek approval of a search warrant.

Robinson was arrested for two felony warrants, possession of controlled substance, tampering with evidence, and eluding on foot.

Brown was arrested for a felony warrant, resisting arrest, battery on a police officer x3, and shoplifting.
