Month of May will see new laws kick-in

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — In 2024, state lawmakers passed new laws going into effect in May. Here are a few: House Bill 129 creates a seven calendar-day waiting period for firearm purchases. HB 182 requires disclaimers on advertisements which are “materially deceptive,” and it makes it an election violation to distribute materially deceptive media. Senate Bill 5 says it’s a crime to have a firearm near a polling place, although there are some exceptions. And there’s House Bill 171 which requires the New Mexico Public Education Department to implement adjusted high school graduation requirements for students entering ninth grade in the 2025-2026 school year.
