APD charges Gabriel Valenzuela-Greene Jr for third homicide

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD detectives charged Gabriel Valenzuela Greene, Jr., for the third murder in which he was suspected of fatally shooting Donte Barnes in the parking lot of a Twisters Restaurant on March 13, 2024. A Grand Jury indicted Greene Friday for the murder at Twisters, along with two others murders.

Detectives arrested Valenzuela Greene on March 16 and charged him for two murders in Southeast Albuquerque – one on March 4 and another on March 13. He was identified as a suspect in the murder at Twisters as investigators connected bullet casings between both murders on March 13 to the same gun.

Officers were dispatched to a shooting at Twisters Restaurant located at 2103 Menaul Blvd., N.E. Barnes, 31, was transported to a hospital, but died as a result of his wounds. Through interviews, detectives determined the offender, later identified as Valenzuela-Greene, approached the victim who was standing at the far NW corner of the parking lot. It is unknown what was said between the two, but multiple shots were fired at the victim causing him to collapse. The shooter then ran around the east side of Twisters before fleeing back to the west down Menaul.

Multiple detectives and investigators were aided by ShotSpotter, the NIBIN ballistics tracing program, APD’s Digital Video Recovery Team, and Digital Intel Teams for quickly solving these murders.

Valenzuela-Greene is also a suspect in two kidnappings and a carjacking incident. He is in custody at the Metro Detention Center.
