Suspect arrested by APD for storage unit burglaries

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — APD detectives arrested Axel Doerr, 26, for a series of burglaries targeting storage units throughout Albuquerque. Doerr was charged with 14 counts of non-residential burglary.

From January 7 through February 25, 2024, Doerr executed a series of burglaries at 6 different storage unit facilities across Albuquerque. Doerr strategically broke into storage units by gaining unauthorized access to the properties, and utilizing burglary tools to cut locks and illegally enter the storage units. Firearms and thousands of dollars’ worth of property were stolen during the series of burglaries. In multiple incidents, Doerr was seen using vehicles without license plates and in some instances used a U-Haul truck to enter the locations. During the investigation of one of the incidents, Doerr was still on scene inside a U-Haul truck and while fleeing the scene, he almost struck a uniformed APD officer who was at the location.

After multiple burglaries of storage units were reported, APD’s Burglary Unit detectives were able to review surveillance video from different facilities and officer bodycam footage to review point of entry to the units and were able to identify the same suspect in multiple videos and pictures. With the help of New Mexico Probation and Parole, APD detectives were able to positively ID Doerr as the suspect.

After securing an arrest warrant, APD’s Burglary Unit, Auto Theft Unit, and Gun Violence Reduction Unit were able to locate Doerr at the Isleta Casino. Isleta Police Department assisted by taking Doerr into custody. Doerr was booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center and charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer
  • Aggravated Burglary
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer
  • Non-Residential Burglary (x14)
  • Breaking and Entering (x8)
  • Conspiracy to Commit a Non-Residential Burglary (x8)
  • Conspiracy to Commit a Breaking and Entering (x5)
  • Receiving Stolen Property
  • Attempt to Commit a Felony (x5)
