ABQ Mayor hosts 4th graders for experience with City Departments

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — From trucks, to games, to lessons about how a city operates, 4th graders at Zia Elementary School got a chance to experience it all in an interactive field trip with the City of Albuquerque this morning. Mayor Tim Keller hosted the students at the Civic Plaza Thursday morning to teach them more about City government.

Representatives from the Albuquerque Police Department, Albuquerque Fire Rescue, Solid Waste Management, Sustainability, and the ABQ BioPark joined the mayor for demonstrations on what they do and how students can get involved. Three police cars, an AFR heavy rescue truck, an AFR fire truck, and a Solid Waste collection truck were all on site to allow students a unique look at the day in the life of some of the City’s employees. In addition, representatives from the ABQ BioPark brought artifacts for students to interact with, and the Sustainability Office provided a hands-on game designed to teach them about recycling and composting initiatives.
