Wanted: high school students and local employers

Bernalillo County, NM (KKOB) — BernCo is excited to announce the launch of its Summer High School Internship Program, offering an opportunity for both high school students and local employers to collaborate and thrive. This innovative program, made possible by a grant from the New Mexico Public Education Department, aims to provide valuable experiences for students while fostering partnerships with businesses to shape tomorrow’s workforce.

The Summer High School Internship Program provides high school students aged 16-18, including graduating seniors, the chance to gain valuable skills and jump-start their careers. Students will work up to 20 hours per week and will be paid $14.31 per hour.

Students gain hands-on experience, forge new connections, and have an opportunity to explore various career paths. Additionally, students receive employability training to prepare them for the internship. Applications open today and interested students are encouraged to apply right away.

Meanwhile, employers – businesses, nonprofits and county departments, have a unique opportunity to access fresh talent, innovative ideas, and dedicated support through this program. Employers mentor local youth and contribute to the development of the community’s future workforce. Bernalillo County and the State of New Mexico take care of employment and hiring costs, allowing employers to focus on providing a mutually beneficial and rewarding experience.
