Near decade-long homicide investigation leads to international extradition

Bernalillo County, NM (KKOB) — The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office announces the successful extradition and arrest of Jesus Alberto Chacon Morales, a suspect in the 2014 homicide of Idali Reyes. Reyes was found deceased with signs of trauma near Goff Blvd SW and Harzman Rd SW on December 24, 2014.

Jose Lopez and Juan Solis, co-suspects in the case, were apprehended shortly after the homicide. Chacon Morales, however, evaded capture by fleeing to Mexico the day after the crime. A provisional arrest warrant was issued, requesting his arrest and subsequent extradition to Albuquerque, NM.

Through the persistent efforts of law enforcement and the cooperation of international authorities, Chacon Morales was located and extradited back to Albuquerque by the U.S. Marshals on March 6, 2024, after being on the run for over nine years. Upon his extradition, BCSO deputies took custody of Chacon Morales.

At 3:30 pm on March 6, 2024, Chacon Morales was processed into the Prisoner Transport Unit. He faces a slew of charges, including an open count of murder, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, aggravated battery, child abuse, tampering with evidence, false imprisonment, and conspiracy.

The family of Idali Reyes has been informed about the recent developments in this case. This arrest serves as a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and our commitment to the victims of violent crime and their families.
