Digital drivers license is on the horizon

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The Land of Enchantment will be joining other states like Arizona, Maryland and Delaware, with the passage of Senate Bill 88, sponsored by Sen. Roberto Gonzales of Ranchos de Taos. Signed by Gov. Lujan Grisham on Feb. 28th, it allows for New Mexicans to have a digital version of thier drivers license on their smartphone. According to the Motor Vehicle Department, when the app is opened, your phone will display a simplified version of the printed ID. More detailed data will be encrypted in the file that can be read by a special scanner. The Motor Vehicle Division doesn’t yet have a timeline for the rollout of the digital IDs.
