Fatal crash involving the Rail Runner in Albuquerque

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Tuesday, around 10 am, New Mexico State Police investigated a crash at Osuna Road NW and the train tracks near Edith involving the Rail Runner train and a Ford pickup truck. 

The initial investigation indicated that the Ford pickup truck was traveling west on Osuna, and the Rail Runner was traveling north towards Osuna.  For unknown reasons, the Ford pickup truck drove under the railroad crossing arm and was struck by the train on the driver’s side.  The driver of the truck, Phillip Raby, 90, of Albuquerque, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene.  No injuries were reported on the train. 

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, which the New Mexico State Police are investigating with assistance from the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
