Montoya’s sentenced to life

Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) — It is life in prison for Estevan Montoya.

He was sentenced Wednesday in New Mexico’s First Judicial District Court for the murder of basketball sensation Fedonta “JB” White at a 2020 summer house party. Judge Glenn Ellington pronounced the sentence after an emotional hearing in which both family and supporters of Montoya and White packed the Santa Fe courtroom.

The Albuquerque Journal says Bianca Vega, White’s mother, told of the trip to the hospital the night her son was shot.

Montoya was found guilty May 17th for the shooting death in Chupadero, a community roughly 15 miles north of Santa Fe.

Montoya’s conviction in the first-degree murder, willful and deliberate, requires him to spend at least 30 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.
