Update on Cabelas shooting

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — New details have been released by New Mexico State Police regarding a shooting at the Cabela’s on Lang Ave.,
On April 29th. 18-year-old Gabriel Velasquez was trying to shoplift several boxes of 9-millimeter bullets, until a store manager confronted Velasquez and began escorting him from the store, officials say that’s when Velasquez took out a gun and pointed it at the manager and several employees.
Off-duty NMSP officer Robert Archuleta witnessed the confrontation, identified himself and followed Velasquez outside to his car, whereupon Velasquez pointed his gun in the direction of the officer and other civilians and fired.
Archuleta returned fire, striking Velasquez who was later taken to the hospital, and now faces armed robbery charges.
