On Sunday, August 5, 2018, at approximately 9:15 p.m., 25-year-old Gerard Fraire and his friend Lawrence Lucero were traveling southbound on 7th St and Central Ave. NW. While stopped at a red light at the intersection of 7th St and Central Ave, an unidentified male approached the passenger side of Lawrence Lucero’s silver Chrysler 200 and opened fire on Gerard who was in the passenger seat. Gerard was struck multiple times and died on scene as a result of his injuries. Lawrence was not injured during the attack. The incident occurred on a Sunday evening with a large group of potential witnesses in the area, as the downtown streets were lined with cars and people who were out enjoying a night of Cruising.
