National Hispanic Heritage Month at UNM going on now

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Hispanic Heritage Month is being celebrated during September at the University of New Mexico.

The highlights recognize the contributions of Hispanic Americans tracing their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South American and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. The school says these individuals have contributed much to American society and culture.

The festivities going on now mark the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Two other countries, Mexico and Chile, celebrate their independence in September as well.
