(Albuquerque)-Due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus, it appears one of the most popular Memorial Day destinations in New Mexico will be closed this year. State Representative Rebecca Dow of Truth or Consequences says shutting down Elephant Butte Lake will have a major impact on the economy of not only Sierra County, but the entire state. She says Elephant Butte generates the most revenue of any state park in New Mexico.
Dow tells KKOB that nearby Caballo Lake is partially open…and she says that’s been a disaster since it has no beaches. She also says there don’t seem to be any safety standards there.
