New Mexico Prepares for Surge in Coronavirus Cases

(Albuquerque)-New Mexico’s peak period for coronavirus cases is expected to be in about two weeks…and a new study shows the state could come up short on ICU beds. But Dr. David Scrase, the Human Services Dept. Secretary, says the actions of New Mexicans could help alleviate that problem:  he says if everyone in New Mexico stayed at home and only sent someone out for groceries and other items needed, we could decrease the transmission of the disease.

Dr. Scrase tells KOAT-TV that the state has ordered one thousand ventilators from FEMA…but it may be a while before they arrive. He says states where coronavirus has hit hardest are given priority.

The state of New Mexico had a total of 865 cases of coronavirus as of Wednesday with 16 deaths so far.
