(Albuquerque)-Governor Lujan Grisham says New Mexico’s first coronavirus related death lays bare the life-or-death consequences of the disease. The State Department of Health says an Eddy County man in his late 70s died Sunday at Artesia General Hospital. He had been admitted earlier that day, and health officials say his condition quickly deteriorated.
A covid-19 test was conducted and sent to the state lab, which confirmed the positive test on Tuesday night.
The health department says the man had multiple chronic underlying health issues. The Governor says the man’s death shows why it’s imperative that New Mexicans observe social distancing and isolation to help slow the spread of the virus.
