Albuquerque Mayor Signs Sanctuary City Bill

REPRESENTATIVES OF VARIOUS IMMIGRANT ADVOCACY GROUPS JOINED ALBUQUERQUE MAYOR TIM KELLER TUESDAY AS HE SIGNED A RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING THE CITY’S IMMIGRANT FRIENDLY STATUS. KELLER SAYS HE DOESN’T EXPECT ANY FALLOUT FROM THE RESOLUTION WHEN IT COMES TO FEDERAL GRANTS.

KELLER SAYS WE’VE SEEN ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY THAT THE COURTS GET INVOLVED WHEN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INTERVENES, AND PUT A STOP TO THE FEDS ENDING FEDERAL GRANTS FOR SANCTUARY CITIES.
THE RESOLUTION SAYS CITY WORKERS CANNOT INQUIRE ABOUT SOMEONE’S IMMIGRANT STATUS, NOR CAN CITY RESOURCES BE USED TO HELP IMPLEMENT FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAWS.
