Why Did Ranked-Choice Voting Taken So Long?

     LET THE ANALYSIS BEGIN. THE CITY OF SANTA FE HAS COMPLETED ITS FIRST RANKED ELECTION IN WHICH VOTERS MARKED THEIR FIRST CHOICE FOLLOWED BY SUBSEQUENT CHOICES. IT TOOK QUITE A WHILE TO DETERMINE THE WINNER IN THE MAYOR’S RACE, ULTIMATELY WON BY ALAN WEBBER.
     UNM POLITICAL SCIENCE PROFESSOR LONNA ATKESON SAYS SHE HAS AN IDEA AS TO WHY IT TOOK SO LONG. SHE SAYS THEY PROBABLY TOOK TIME TO MAKE SURE CONFIRMING EVERYTHING WAS WORKING AND SOFTWARE WAS ACCURATE.
     SO IS RANKED VOTING THE WAY OF THE FUTURE? ATKESON TELLS US SOME OTHER CITIES THAT USED THE SYSTEM HAVE DECIDED TO RETURN TO THE CONVENTIONAL WAY OF HOLDING AN ELECTION.
