Hikers Found Dead Near Carlsbad Caverns

A tragic end for two hikers missing in the Carlsbad Caverns area this week. The remains of 57-year-old Robert Stuart Pluta and his son Robert Neal Pluta, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, were found dead by search and rescue teams.

One of the men’s bodies was found around 10 PM Monday two miles northwest of the caverns and the other shortly before 11 AM Tuesday a mile from where the first man was found.

They had left for Carlsbad Caverns on June 14th. Hotel staff say there had been no activity on their account since last Thursday. Their red F-150 truck was found Monday afternoon at the Rattlesnake Canyon trailhead.
