Torrance County Sheriff Heath White thinks the suspects responsible for Tuesday’s grass fires along I-40 are long gone. White says they also don’t have a good description of the teens who allegedly lit fireworks, specifically Roman candles, that ignited four fires that merged into one fire. Several people called the Sheriff’s Department about the fires around 2 in the afternoon. Fire Crews had to deal with Tuesday’s strong winds but were able to put the fires out. Firefighters stayed on the scene overnight to make sure the fire didn’t restart.
