Avoiding the Plague in NM

Some words of advice from the New Mexico Department of Health in light of the state’s first human case of the plague this year: stay from dead animals, don’t let your pets roam free, and clean up any areas around your house that might attract rodents.

Plague is usually transmitted to humans through the bites of infected fleas. A Santa Fe County man remains hospitalized in critical condition after contracting the illness recently.
