Paul Krebs’ tenure as Vice-President of Athletics at UNM is coming to an end. He announced Friday morning that he is retiring at the end of the month. It comes as the state auditor and the New Mexico attorney general are reviewing a trip to Scotland two years ago in which public funds were used to cover some costs.
Krebs tells our sports station, 610 KNML, he’s been considering retirement for the last year and the school has now accepted his decision to retire. He says everything going on now is too much of a distraction.
Krebs has been with the Lobos for 11 years. Under his leadership, the Lobos won 57 Mountain West titles, but his most lasting impact at UNM were the academic successes by his athletes. Their cumulative GPAs were higher than the general student body for 10 consecutive semesters.
