The effort to fully staff the Albuquerque Police Department gathers some steam Thursday as the Academy graduates 24 new officers. It will bring the total number of sworn officers at APD up to 861, still well short of what is considered a fully staffed department.
A recent effort by two city councilors to raise the number of officers to 1,200 was not approved by the council. Also graduating Thursday will be seven cadets for the Rio Rancho Police Department.
