They have a budget plan but New Mexico lawmakers will be back in Santa Fe Tuesday for the special session that started last Wednesday. Regardless of the budget signed by Governor Martinez before Memorial Day after she vetoed the tax hikes in it, legislators could still have more to do.
The question is whether they can override the Governor’s vetoes. That’s sill an option according to Senate Democrats.
The budget plan signed by the Governor restores funding for higher education and the Legislature but it no longer contains proposed internet sales taxes and hospital sales taxes. The gas tax has also been eliminated.
The special session reconvenes at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon.
