The fluoridation debate in ABQ isn’t over. The City-County Water Utility Authority will hold public hearings in June and August on a plan to add fluoride to the drinking water. The board approved fluoridation earlier this month even though the item wasn’t on the agenda.
Peter St. Cyr with the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government says that shouldn’t have happened. He says the public has a right to know what will be deliberated at these meetings, regardless of what the issue it.
St. Cyr says state law requires that the public be notified when a government agency considers any issue.
