NM Subcontractors May be Blocked from Facebook Project

Trouble brewing in efforts to get the new Facebook data center built in Los Lunas. Reps for New Mexico’s construction industry tell the Albuquerque Journal the standards Facebook is imposing on subcontractors will likely disqualify most of those businesses.

The Oregon-based general contractor, Fortis Construction, says subcontractors will need an excellent safety record, experience working large projects, and no more than 20% of primary subcontractors’ annual revenue should be committed to the Facebook Project.

Phase one of constructing the data center should take about two years and cost $250 million.
