Five carjacking suspects are in custody after fleeing Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputies early Friday. Sheriff’s Spokesperson Felicia Romero says the five are accused of carjacking a person at gunpoint on Cypress Southwest around 3:00 Friday morning. A car chase ensued with deputies that ended with a crash on St. Joseph’s near North Coors.
The car chase led to one Albuquerque police officer on his way home from work being badly injured in the crash on St. Joseph’s. APD officer Fred Duran says the officer had been pinned in his vehicle. He’s now hospitalized. It’s believed the five suspects are part of a group of young people who commit crimes together. Some of them are repeat offenders.
The crash had roads along St. Joseph’s closed from Coors to Atrisco.
