Councilors Back Mayor’s Anti Crime Initiative

Part of Albuquerque Mayor Berry’s recently announced anti-crime initiative will go before the City Council next month. The mayor wants to hire up to 25 former APD officers and detectives to investigate property crimes that don’t need an immediate police response. That will free up uniformed officers to deal with more urgent matters.

The one year pilot program is expected to cost $1.3 Million. It could be extended another two years if successful.
