UNM, D-O-J Agree on Sex Assault Response

The University of New Mexico says it’ll do better in responding to reports of sexual assault and harassment on campus. The university has reached an agreement with the Department of Justice to ensure that UNM responds swiftly and effectively to incidents involving students.

The DOJ did a 16 month investigation after students complained that the university didn’t respond adequately when they made sexual assault allegations. The agreement details specific steps UNM will take to strengthen its procedures.

U.S. Attorney Damon Martinez says students have the right to live and learn in a safe educational environment.
