Victory for Albuquerque neighborhood groups opposing the city’s garbage transfer station on Edith near Comanche. The City Council Monday night voted unanimously to require a zoning change to locate the transfer station there. The Albuquerque Journal reports city executives claim there’s no need to change the zoning and that the city would save up to $4.5 Million dollars a year in fuel costs as the station is close to garbage pickup rounds.
A lawyer for the neighborhood group says it’s too close to where people live. The zoning change calls for a public hearing with the applicant proving it would not hurt nearby residents and property owners.
