Albuquerque’s murder rate is back up again. The Albuquerque Journal Monday reports there have been 45 killings in the city since the start of the year. Last year, there were 46 murders. And 2015 was the deadliest year in Albuquerque since 2009. It was 1996 when the city’s murder rate hit a total of 70.
Mayor RJ Berry tells the Journal a lot of cities across the US saw a spike in homicides. In fact, Chicago has already surpassed 500 murders this year. Both Berry and APD blame a violent, career criminals for the increase here.
