Fiesta and Sandia Pueblo Reach Agreement on Balloons

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta officials and Sandia Pueblo leaders reach an understanding to allow for quote, “Final and necessary landings” of hot air balloons on the reservation. This follows Monday’s announcement that the Pueblo would ban landings on their property during the Balloon Fiesta starting October 1st.

In response to the balloon landing ban, there were protests, with many Albuquerque residents, saying they’d boycott Sandia Casino.

The new agreement allows landings on parts of the Pueblo, with Sandia Pueblo being notified by pilots. Balloons flying over the Pueblo have to be at least 200 feet in the air.
