Well our handsome loving Chow/lab mix Oso now has a doggie cold. He is still available for adoption at our Eastside shelter. He is nearly finished with his meds to treat the cold. Oso would be happy to meet you so just ask staff to take him out for you. Gentle Peter has been popular with our volunteers and enjoying walks but is still waiting for his forever home. He will be the very polite boy sitting at his kennel door in building A.
Yauni (ID# A 1730180) is a 2 year old, female tan & black German Shepherd mix. She is a tall gal weighing 69 pounds. She could be a hiking or jogging companion. This pretty young girl was at our Westside and came East to meet new friends and get a better chance to be seen. Our Eastside location appears to get more foot traffic. Like most of the dogs that come into our shelter Yauni was not quite sure about her new “home” so was a bit shy. Quite typical of so many of our larger dogs Yauni is frustrated with kennel life and appears to be an active girl. When you take her out she is quite gentle and pretty good on leash. She just wants to be with people. This girl is always ready to play and will play a game of chase with you. She was surrendered because she played too roughly with the older dog. Our staff found Yauni to be dog friendly. She has participated in a doggie play group and a lovely you tube video was filmed. Yauni was in play group with softer dogs. They were not overly playful with each other but enjoyed socializing and on this day she was quite gentle. With every dog we suggest a meet and greet to ensure a happy home. Yauni really likes her toys. Remember, a child’s toy looks just like a dog’s toy most times and sometimes neither wants to share with the other. We have dogs surrendered because they chewed up the child’s favorite toy. Keeping children’s toys put away or up high on a shelf will solve any possible problem. When considering a dog if children are involved we strive to determine what age would be appropriate. Several things are taken into consideration. Size, energy levels, familiarity and skills matter. This larger playful young dog will do best with older children, over 12. Yauni has a beautiful shorter and very clean coat. It will require just a bit of regular brushing. She is smart already knowing the cue for sit and would be eager to learn more during her free training class that accompanies all adoptions. You will find her in our first building at the Eastside shelter. Sometimes our dogs get bored waiting for their turn to get out for a walk so they find something to keep them amused. Yauni loves to hold onto, carry, and play with her food dish and it really is quite cute. She reminds us of Linus from Peanuts cartoons with his security blanket. Offer a milk bone and Yauni quickly drops her bowl and will be eager to come out for an interaction with you.
Rosie (ID# A 1730048) is an 8 year old, female red ticked Redbone Coonhound mix. She is larger dog weighing 63pounds. Rosie is typical of her breed. She loves to get out into nature for a walk and her nose is to the ground. Once she catches a scent she is off so we walk her and suggest her adopter use a harness. This is better for most dogs as it does not put pressure on the trachea and it also distributes the weight better making larger or small easier to handle. She came in with a little sore on her neck so the harness does not rub this area that is just about completely healed. Remember all adoptions come with a free training class. Just a bit of practice (homework) will benefit both you and Rosie and make for happy walking partners. Rosie already knows the cue for sit so you both will be stars in class when doing this trick. Rosie is a very sweet cuddle bug. She loves attention and petting. Rosie participated in our dog play group and although on the softer side enjoyed interacting with her friends. If you have another dog we are happy to help with introductions prior to adoption. If you like hounds then Rosie is a classic and truly represents her breed. Looking for your true love? Rosie the red ticked hound will be your Valentine? Come meet Rosie at our Eastside shelter in the first building A. Her kennel is the first one you will see after you leave the lobby.
Fresh Start for Pet Owners

The first 25 people will receive a free Rabies Vaccine and City Pet License voucher for their dogs. You must show proof that your dog is spayed or neutered and micro-chipped, and the owner must stay through the presentation. Limit 1 per household.
Please do not bring your pets to the event. This is a must attend event for any dog owner that needs to get into compliance. Registering to attend is not necessary.
