One of the two little brothers featured last week, Frankie was adopted Saturday. Max is still available at our Eastside shelter. He now has a new kennel mate. Max has a fun picture for you to see as he got to pose this last week with a Star Wars Storm Trooper in preparation of our special adoption event on January 16, 2016. Look to our website www.cabq.gov/pets to see our dogs, cats, bunnies and iguana that posed with the members of the Star Wars 501st Legion and their fantastic costumes. This fun event is only for one day! That is Martin Luther King Holiday weekend so please note below our holiday hours. Saturday will be the day to adopt from our East and Westside locations.
Max A# 1105912
Holbrook (ID# A 1729524) is a 1 year & 2 month old, male black & white Border Collie mix. He weighs 45 pounds. This very handsome boy is fairly energetic. He is a bright alert guy. He loves to be with people and receive attention and affection. He is very smart already knowing sit, down and he is learning stay. Bringing him to the free adoption classes will work that intelligent herding brain of his. He also would be a great hiking companion. He has accompanied one of our volunteers on a hike last weekend. She reported he had a great time and was good in the car. It seems he was mostly likely an only dog before he came to our shelter as he appears unsure when other dogs get in his face but he takes walks nicely alongside them on his daily walks around our shelter. If you have another dog bring him or her to the shelter with you for a meet and greet. Holbrook would love to find a more active family. Daily walks are a must and weekend hikes with his person or children over 8 would be lots of fun for him. Holbrook was also a lucky dog getting his picture taken with his favorite Star Wars Storm Trooper. They were a perfect pair as she had a bit of dust perhaps from a hike on her costume. Holbrook is at our Eastside shelter.
Jackie (ID# A 1730337) is a 3 year old, female brindle & white American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She weighs 51 pounds. This girl has a beautiful darker brindle coat that is slightly softer than you would expect. She is a fairly gentle girl. She came in stray and had been injured by another dog. She has now healed and doing well. She is pretty good on leash after her initial excitement being able to come out and stretch her legs and get individual attention. Jackie does enjoy a spurt of running around the yard. She has been learning the cue for sit and doing well. She has a sweet expressive face. You will notice in her picture she is curious too. She has been a very calm, quiet and clean dog in her kennel. A home with older children would be good as well as a single person or couple. Every adoption comes with a free training class. Jackie is eager to please and these classes can also be great to boost confidence in a shier dog as well as aid in the bonding process between you and your new companion. Jackie is well loved by our volunteers who call her sweetheart. Come meet this lady at our Eastside shelter and take her to a quiet are where you can get to know her. Jackie was a bit star struck when she had her picture taken with the Star Wars Storm Trooper. You just must check it out. It will be coming to our website soon.
Star Wars Pets Have Arrived
The Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department says Star Wars pets have arrived and are ready for adoption. The event will take place at all City shelters, Saturday, January 16.
The force is strong in these lovable furry creatures. Let the Force awaken within you. It’s a Force that can’t be beat. Much like Luke – these pets are just looking for their fathers. Let it in and adopt a Star Wars pet.
These shelter pets are perfectly willing to travel to a galaxy far, far away if it means gliding into their forever homes. The city shelter empire is chock-full of cute furry things: Ewoks, Chewbacca, and now fur babies who want to hear you say, “Kitty, I am your father!”
Select a unique companion for an adoption fee of only $10 for pets 6 months or older. Along with a dog adoption Animal Welfare is providing one day of free Jedi basic dog training.
Star Wars fans can come to the Eastside shelter from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to take a photo with their favorite Star Wars character. The photos will be done by WinstonFoto.com, and the 501st Legion will be in Star Wars costumes. There will be drawings to win items from Petco and one free nail trimming coupon with every adoption from Groomingdales Pet Spa.
