Pets of the Week | Dec 4

Both of last weeks dogs beautiful and very talented Australian Shepherd Julie as well as playful affectionate little Chi Chewy are still waiting to find their forever homes. Remember extra time off during the holidays is a great time to help your new companion acclimate to home and family. This is a good time for all of us to remember that many of the things unique to the season like decorations and food can be deadly to our pets. Just keep this in mind and be extra careful during this time of year.

Our Thanksgiving holiday adoption events were quite successful. During the Door buster Black Friday event our satellite location (Lucky Paws) had 18 adoptions. During the autumn pet adoption event there were 69 adoptions on Saturday, 41 adoptions on Sunday. A grand total of 128 animals found their homes over those three days.

It seems even with many great adoptions over the last week our kennels are still quite crowded with rabbits, cats and dogs of all ages and sizes. Yes, we still can help you find your perfect match with just a bit of information from you to help us help you.

Chico (ID# A 1089121) is an 8 year old, male tan & white smooth coated Chihuahua mix. Chico weighs 8 pounds. Many little dogs are frightened of little children and the children are very often just too rough with such a little dog. This seems the case with our Chico. He became frightened of the young child in the family. He has a little area near his lower back where Chico is a bit sensitive to touch so most likely a child probably squeezed him too tightly and left a memorable impression.  When Chico was surrendered his family said he was kept inside. He is house trained, crate trained, loves to ride in a car. He has been to a few off-site adoption events were all report he was friendly, loving and very quiet in the kennel. We just do not know why this little guy has not found his perfect match yet. He has participated in our small dog play groups. He has done well with the other gentle dogs. Chico does need to have his very own food bowl. He is not fond of sharing. He enjoys taking walks with our volunteers and is easy on leash. The ladies that work with our small dog play groups say Chico really enjoys lap time receiving affection. Chico is waiting for you at our Eastside shelter in building B.

Gunther (ID# A 1729611) is a 2 year old, male, golden red Chow Chow mix. He weighs 45 pounds. This boy is mostly a fairly easy going boy. When we first get him out he is so excited to be with a person and jumps up but he is a gentle guy and with a little “no” he is quick to listen.  The free training classes that come with every adoption will help you know just what to do so he quickly calms. He walks nicely on leash and is a great companion for those daily walks. He has been quiet and polite in his kennel. He loves to be with people and receive affection. Gunther just loves  all toys but especially squeaky toys. His favorite past time is to chase one you toss and then he very carefully buries them. He really enjoys a tennis ball and these are great toys for dogs but please remember no dog should be left alone with a tennis ball as they are easily chewed and those pieces can cause a rather large vet bill or worse. Gunther  is an alert and attentive young dog. Even his intake picture shows his curious focused expression.  He can be a little on the shy side at times but his love of people has him quickly warming up and offering kisses. He could be great for a single person, a retired couple and a family with children 12 or over. This volunteer and staff favorite is hoping to find a safe and loving home from our Eastside shelter. Come meet Gunther in our first building, building A.
