Bill Cosby
The recent and not so recent allegations about sexual misconduct concerning "America's Dad" Bill Cosby, (by the way although it fits, I have never heard him referred to as "America's Dad" until this scandal.) is an interesting study in how we all protect then destroy people in the public eye. The rumors about Bill Cosby have been around for decades, and I'm sure many in show business knew and protected him. Why? Because he was a sacred cow, a comedy and television legend who could make or break careers with a single phone call. No one wants to make enemies with a man that powerful. But now that he is 77 and does not have the juice he once did, we begin to tear him down. Still no comment from the Cosby camp. We do know, and have for years, that he has settled monetarily with women in the past. But this out casting of Cosby won't last forever. When he dies all will be forgiven. Networks will run his old shows and there will be tearful retrospectives. Remember when radio stations shelved Michael Jackson records when his child sexual misconduct charges came up? Then after his death he was embraced again. I'm sure the same will happen with Cosby, the 24 hour news cycle won't run on its own.
